October Newsletter 2024

Welcome to the October Finches Lane's Newsletter

Thank you so much for being here and for all your support.

I really do appreciate you.

Well hello dearest people,

Do you live in a part of the world where it’s Autumn?

“I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers”

L.M. Montgomery's - Anne of Green Gables.

The colours are changing in such a beautiful way in this part of the world. Apparently the only good reason for having a very damp Spring is that it gives us glorious Autumn colours.

Cobwebs covered in water droplets

My daughter and I were discussing the use of the word "cobweb," and we found that it's a term now used for dusty old webs - "cob" coming from the word "coppe," meaning head or round, which was part of the old word for spider. Who knew?! So it's a web if they still have a spider in residence and a cobweb if not.

I would imagine that like me you have a varied month of ups and downs (which I am becoming more aware that instead of the highs and lows being spaced out they seem to happen simultaneously).

I take great inspiration from the natural world around me and comfort too. A couple of weeks ago I was walking the dogs and was mentally distracted by the harder parts of life when I looked up and saw this - it gave me the kind of hope that brings tears.

Seasons change

You may be wondering why this was so moving but if I tell you I was finding myself feeling raw and undone and here in front of me was the dark soil reflecting my innermost emotions - I suddenly felt known and not lost.

The wonderful thing about a ploughed field is that it is not ever meant to be left like that - seasons change and growth begins again. In a very short amount of time I would be able to see the landscape change and I can have hope.

So many others things have brought me hope and joy too and these are the few I have managed to take photos of:

A photo of a tree trunk that has spiralled clockwise as its grown giving it a twisted look

There are a couple of new products which I’ve been experimenting with putting my designs on. See what you think.

There is an insulated water bottle and a recycled iPhone case.

I also have a new Christmas design called Truly. I love the poetry of old hymnals, and the Christmas Carol ‘O Holy Night’ has the lines -

Truly He taught us to love one another,

which is a message that I would love to always remember.

a black cotton bag with a star design and the words - truly he taught us to love one another

And don’t forget the cute new Agapanthus design..
