Updated: 11 hours ago

A photo of a small 4 petaled white flower with simple green leaves
Agrimonia eupatoria

Identifying features:

Seen from June to September this wildflower grows in hedgerows, roadsides and verges, but mostly in grassy meadows

The 5 yellow petals grow unstalked on the central stem and start blossoming at the bottom and gradually the buds open over time from the bottom up. Often the seeds are developing at the lower part of the stem whilst the newer flowers are still nearer the top.

Family - Rosaceae.

Note:

The hooked seed heads are very familiar with dog owners as after any country walk in the summer the hooked pods attach themselves to any animal that wanders past. Many hours are dedicated each summer to the removal of these little spiky balls. If plants could chuckle this on e definitely would.

If you get close enught to one in flower it may give you the fragrance of apricots. The plant has been used as a medicinal herb over th years and has had a variety of uses.
