5 things you might not know about the wild flower - the Wood Anemone.
It has mostly 7 (but sometimes 6 -10) white, sometimes pinkish, tepals (a petal x sepal mix - link below if you want to learn more ) and they grow on a single stalk and it has bright yellow stamen in the centre. Just to add to their sweetness the little tepals close at night too.
It's only seen in Spring from March to May, especially amongst other wild flowers like Bluebells and Lesser Celandines.
If you see this star shaped flower you will probably be in an ancient deciduous woodland. Breathe the air as it will be fresh and clean.
The flowers open before the leaves of the trees, as it loves the early Spring dappled sunlight. I wouldn't get to close though as animals often avoid these wildflowers as they have a musky smell which puts them off. They are also poisonous to humans but delicious to hover flies!
Its part of the Ranunculaceae flower family which also includes Buttercups and Lesser Celandines

Bonus information- also known as Wind flower, Moon Flower, Lady's night cap and Smell Fox (see below)!
If you love this flower like I do, check out the Wood Anemone Collection at our shops, at the moment we have wallpaper, fabrics and home wares..
