Discover the Beauty of Wood Anemone in the Finches Lane Wildflower Florilegium of Britain and Ireland

A photo of a small 4 petaled white flower with simple green leaves
Anemone nemorosa

Identifying features:

Seen from March to May this wildflower grows in woodlands especially amongst Bluebells.

The 7 white, sometimes pinkish, petals grow on a single stalk and it has bright yellow stamen in the centre. The star shaped flowers cover ancient deciduous woodland ground and come out before the leaves, as it loves the early Spring dappled sunlight.

Family - Ranunculaceae

Note:

Animals often avoid these plants as they have a musky smell which puts them off. They are also poisonous to humans but delicious to hoverflies!
